You can sponsor a tree to help commemorate 500 years since the Battle of Linlithgow Bridge, fought on 4th September 1526. Battle Wood is located near the community orchard, opposite the Xcite Leisure Centre in Linlithgow, see the map opposite for details.
Tree sponsorship costs £20 (or multiples of £20) which covers all costs, including planting and maintenance.
Included in your tree sponsorship is the option of adding your name and a message of remembrance or dedication to the Honour Roll on the Battle 500 website, which will be available for everyone to see. So, if you’re sponsoring a tree to remember a loved one, or commemorate a special anniversary or date, you’ll be able to show people your message online.
There will be a supervised community planting day in November 2026, please watch this space for details of the date.
The majority of the trees being planted in our Battle Wood were collected by hand as seed from local Linlithgow trees, with the help of local Linlithgow volunteers, who also helped to grow them over the last couple of years. These trees will provide shade and habitat for our birds and beasties, and become a living memorial dedicated to the Battle that the public can enjoy.
The Battle 500 team would like to extend huge thanks to Darroch Nurseries and West Lothian Council for their input into this part of the project – it wouldn’t have been possible without their support.
